The United States alone has nearly 4,000 types of military aircraft including bombers, fighters, trainers, and, of course, helicopters. Navy helicopters are an important part of the Navy’s mission. The Navy has several types of helicopters that each have an important role to play both during wartime and when the country is at peace.
Military helicopters have helped in a variety of important events, including assistance during search-and-rescue missions and rescuing people after significant natural events such as floods, proving that both helicopters and the people who operate them are very versatile and crucial to safety. Navy helicopters are reliable and can operate for many years at a time without having to be retired.
A few different types of Navy helicopters that can sometimes be seen around Virginia Beach include the Sikorsky SH-60 Seahawk, Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion and MH-53E Sea Dragon, along with many others. Each helicopter plays a different role in protecting freedom in the United States and helping soldiers on the ground overseas.
Some of the services these helicopters provide can range from search-and-rescue missions, medical evacuation, heavy-lift duties, assault support, vertical shipboard delivery and more!
With Patriotic Excursions, one of our main goals is to educate our guests on local military presence, first hand. What that means is when we see a military helicopter fly by while we are out on one of our boats doing simulation missions, dolphin tours or even sunset cruises, we can provide information about what each one of those helicopters does for our military and why it is so important to have them around.
